Sutton Crescent Community Housing

CORT Community Housing, a long-standing client, presented Ministry with a unique brief; to design accommodation for a tenant group which allowed their tenants to feel safe while also allowing active engagement with their community. This resulting urban village seeks to provide purpose-built housing for those who are often most overlooked.

To allow tenants to feel independent and secure each ofthe 27 one-and two-bedroom apartments are articulated so each unit can be readas an individual dwelling. This is enhanced with amenity planting, permeablefencing, balconies, and sunshades to create styling of the individual units.Communal areas include raised veggie gardens, washing lines and wide walkways.By providing opportunities for increased social engagement these create pointsof connection fostering a village atmosphere. Then connecting to the publicrealm, this allows tenants the opportunity to engage with the public world attheir own leisure.
